Tourism SkillsNet North Program
In collaboration with Ontario Tourism Education Corporation, Destination Northern Ontario, Nature and Outdoor Tourism Ontario, District Social Services Administration Boards and Northern Ontario Workforce Planning Boards, Tourism SkillsNet North (TSNN) is designed to identify specific workforce labour gaps, train up to 300 potential employees and match them with available job opportunities within Northern Ontario’s tourism sector.
Qualified employers will be eligible for a 30% wage subsidy up to $3,000 per employee.
Ontario Professional Tourism Industry Specialist (OPTIS)/Northern Ontario Professional Tourism Industry Specialist (NOPTIS) Micro-credential
The Ontario Professional Tourism Industry Specialist (OPTIS) and the Northern Ontario Professional Tourism Industry Specialist (NOPTIS) micro-credential was designed in partnership with the top industry leaders in Ontario tourism for upskilling existing employees within their current job, in addition to supporting the tourism sector to scale up in post-COVID recovery. This micro-credential targets individuals who work for any organization with a mandate to support operators to foster growth in the tourism industry. This includes provincial and federal tourism advisors, municipal staff, economic development officers, destination marketing and sector organization staff, in addition to tourism operators and individuals in management roles within the tourism sector.
Boating Ontario Association offers Virtual Student Training Program
The program is run by certified TSSA instructor and covers a variety of training including;
- Customer service skills i.e. put your phone down and 😊 at the customer
- FUEL DOCK training – proper filling techniques, emergency preparedness etc.
- Use of spill kits
- How to fill a PWC
- And much more
Business managers (or owners) who arrange the training are emailed the certificates of completion – these are handy to have on hand in the event of a surprise inspection in season.
Cost for Boating Ontario members is only $40 + HST per student – we would be happy to extend our member rate to any of DNO or NOTO members who were interested.
